VCA
The Dutch safety certification for contractors and their staff
Work permit
Formal authorisation to carry out high-risk work, with the controls written down
Augmented reality
Digital information projected over the real working environment
Authoring tool
The software e-learning modules get built in
Digital twin
A virtual replica of an installation for safe practice and training
E-learning
Digital training worked through independently, whenever it suits
Mobile learning
Learning on a phone or tablet, at the place where the work happens
Serious game
A game in which learning is the goal and play is the means
Simulation
A recreated situation in which acting can be rehearsed without real consequences
VR training
Immersive learning with virtual reality for scenarios you cannot rehearse safely
70-20-10 model
A rule of thumb about the split between learning on the job, from each other and through training
Blended learning
A tailored combination of digital and hands-on learning
Cognitive load
The amount of working memory that learning or working demands
Competency matrix
An overview of which employee demonstrably masters which task
Formative assessment
Assessing in order to learn, not in order to judge
Instructional design
The methodical design of effective training programmes
Kirkpatrick model
Four levels for evaluating the effect of training
Learning objective
A testable description of what somebody must be able to do afterwards
Learning path
A fixed sequence of learning activity leading to a role or a competence
Microlearning
Short learning modules of 3 to 7 minutes for higher retention
Performance support
Help at the moment of execution, rather than training beforehand
Scenario-based learning
Learning by taking decisions in a realistic situation
Spaced repetition
An evidence-based technique for breaking the forgetting curve
