VR training

Immersive learning with virtual reality for scenarios you cannot rehearse safely

01 Definition

VR training (virtual reality training) is a format in which participants experience a three-dimensional, interactive simulation through a VR headset. Unlike video or e-learning, a VR environment lets participants perform actions, take decisions and make mistakes, in a safe setting that mirrors reality.

02 Why it matters

People learn most effectively by doing. VR makes doing possible for situations that are too dangerous, too rare or too expensive to rehearse live: a fire in a machine room, an explosion risk at a gas line, an emergency shutdown of a chemical reactor. The combination of bodily presence and emotional involvement makes VR training stick more deeply than classroom alternatives.

03 In practice

In the energy, chemical and offshore industries, the situations that most need rehearsal are precisely the situations you cannot rehearse live. A fire at a compressor station, thermal runaway in battery storage, an ATEX incident on a platform: for every one of those, the first time your team encounters it must not be the first time they think about what to do. Modern standalone headsets (Meta Quest 3) need no IT infrastructure, no PC and no fixed training location.

05 Frequently asked questions
How realistic is VR training compared with the real workplace?
STARK builds VR environments from the client’s actual installation. Floor plans, fittings, control panels and escape routes are identical to the real location, so operators recognise their own workplace. That is essential for transfer: what is learned in VR then gets applied on the real work floor.
What does a VR training module cost?
The cost depends on the complexity of the simulated environment, the number of scenarios and the platforms required. We are happy to give a first indication in conversation, based on your specific situation. The investment usually weighs up against a single avoided incident, or against the saving on travel and classroom training infrastructure.
