SCORM (Sharable Content Object Reference Model) is a technical standard for e-learning content that governs how a learning module communicates with a Learning Management System (LMS). A SCORM-conformant module can be uploaded to any compatible LMS and sends data back to the system: completion status, score, time spent and progress.
SCORM is the most widely used standard for LMS integration worldwide. If you buy training or have it built and you want it to work in your LMS, it has to be SCORM conformant. For HSE and L&D managers, SCORM compliance is a standard requirement when purchasing training content.
In industry, SCORM matters most for compliance training where proof of completion is required for audits, certification or site access. A SCORM module automatically records who completed the training, when, and with what result, without any manual administration. Note that SCORM 1.2 and SCORM 2004 are the two versions. Most older LMS platforms in industry support only SCORM 1.2. Always ask which version your LMS supports before training gets built.
What is the difference between SCORM 1.2 and SCORM 2004?
