People forget 70% of a training within three days. Microlearning solves that.

The Ebbinghaus forgetting curve is not a theory, it is an operational problem. After a VR session, a classroom day or an e-learning module, retention drops fast if no repetition follows. Microlearning is the answer: short, focused modules that refresh exactly the right part at exactly the right moment.

01 How it works

Not learning more, but holding on to what was learned for longer.

Microlearning does not replace in-depth training. It is an addition that raises retention dramatically by using spaced repetition: the principle that repeating something at the right moment, just before you would forget it, fixes the knowledge in long-term memory.

In practice that means an operator who has done a VR training on gas-free working gets three short questions on their phone the following week. Two different ones the week after. A month later, a scenario question testing an edge case. Never more than five minutes at a time, and the effect on retention has been measured and is significant.

The modules are built from the content of the initial training, so they are never generic. They deal with precisely the installation, the procedures and the risks that matter for that person at that workplace.

Deployment patterns

  • After VR training A weekly refresher of the rehearsed scenarios, holding knowledge over time.
  • Before a shutdown Daily modules in the run-up weeks, keeping procedures sharp for the critical period.
  • After an incident Focused modules on the theme in question, learning while it still feels relevant.
  • Continuous A weekly scenario question as a fixed routine, keeping safety awareness alive.
02 When to use

Microlearning works best as an addition, not as a replacement.

Suitable for microlearning

  • Retention after earlier in-depth training (VR, e-learning, classroom)
  • Refreshers for procedures that are rarely performed but nonetheless critical
  • Preparation for a shutdown or other critical period
  • Continuous safety awareness for operators and engineers
  • Fast information transfer when a procedure changes

Less suitable

  • Building complex skills from scratch (use VR or blended for that)
  • Situations where the context and reasoning behind a procedure are not yet known
03 Compatible solutions

Microlearning as the closing piece of these solutions.

Microlearning comes as standard, securing what the initial training delivered.
