The format everyone dislikes, and the one that still delivers most.

E-learning has a poor name in industry, and mostly it has earned one: too long, too generic, clicking through until the tick turns green. That is not a property of the format but of how it has been used. Made well, it is still the fastest and cheapest way to reach everybody.

01 How it works

A module starts with one question: what should somebody do differently afterwards. The content follows from that, and the assessment above all. Without having that sharp, what you get is a presentation with navigation buttons.

We build around situations rather than around chapters. Not a screen with the definition of a gas leak, but the situation where the reading is fine and it still does not feel right. That difference decides whether an experienced operator takes it seriously.

The content comes out of your own procedures, incident reports and conversations with specialists. The imagery comes from your own installation. That is the most expensive part of the production and at the same time the part that determines the return.

What goes into a module

  • Situations from your own practice, not generic examples
  • Imagery of your own installation and equipment
  • Assessment on decisions, with credible distractors
  • A record per employee, version included
  • Multilingual from the first outline onwards
02 When to use

Suitable

Knowledge everybody has to have. Subjects you repeat annually. Groups spread across sites, shifts or countries. Anything where you have to demonstrate who has had it.

Not suitable

Operations where force or feel counts. Subjects that change weekly. Situations where the discussion in the room is precisely the value.

In practice e-learning is rarely the whole answer, but almost always part of it: the knowledge up front, so the time with a trainer or on the work floor goes into real practice.

Runs on any device

Browser, tablet and phone. No installation, no app store.

Built to be maintained

Text kept separate from imagery, so a change is not a new project.

Demonstrable

Visible per person what was completed, when, and which version.

Do you have a subject everybody has to work through? That is usually where it starts.
